CLAY GECKO'S
Clay Gecko's
Making cute little gecko's from clay came naturally to me. After many years as a child watching my father,
Pastor Russell Saunders OAM sit there patiently making his clay sculptures, how could I not be inspired.
My first attempts at a gecko at the age of 11, were a little clumsy. But years of working with clay, adapting basic building processes from my dad, I finally came up with my own style.
The gecko's are not realistic representations, but an abstract version,of my dad's abstract version, of a gecko.
This new series of gecko's are a bit smaller than ones I have attempted in the past, but I am enjoying making them smaller with more unique personalities and movement. The new paint process I am trying has been a pleasure and time consuming. Combining laying on different layers of paint, blending, fine line work and dots has made a result I find pleasing to the eye capturing skin textures while still holding a sense of my cultural art.
Gecko's are a joy to make, cant help smiling when making them, from the wet sticky brown clay stage, to the pink bisque fired hardness, and then the smooth paint - cant forget the final spray sealant. All this adds together to create a cute, curious little Australian buddy to call your own.
My gecko's are for sale and only available from our family Gallery, Deep Water Shark Gallery, Taree, NSW Australia.
